Facility Planning
Introduction
On November 8, 2016 the Carlton community successfully passed an operating referendum. The successful vote showed us that our community believes in Carlton Public Schools. During the last several years the district has used taxpayer dollars wisely and improved its financial position. Our vision is to create opportunities for students, maintain excellent teachers and staff, engage the community, offer quality academics, arts, and athletics programs, and maintain modern, healthy and welcoming facilities.
The Carlton Board of Education decided in November to continue towards this vision by determining how well our current facilities meet the needs of our students, staff and the community. This assessment process includes community engagement to gather parent, student, staff and community input, and assessments for educational adequacy, demographic studies, and the current condition of our facilities.
A community advisory committee has been meeting since January to determine facility options based on our assessments. Planning is expected to be completed in April 2017 and the Board of Education will consider the community advisory committee’s recommendation in May. Any major facility investment will require public funding through a bond levy referendum.

Next Steps
If the school board decides to take action to address facility inadequacies, it could consider an August 2017 bond referendum.
